September on the Farm: Cacao & Coffee Blossoms at Kupa’a Farms 🌱🍫☕
September is bringing new life to the orchards at Maui Chocolate and Coffee Tours at Kupa’a Farms!
There’s something special happening in the trees this month. Our cacao trees are producing new blossoms, and our coffee plants are flowering too!
These delicate little flowers are the beginning of two of the world’s favorite flavors—chocolate and coffee. Before either one reaches your cup or your favorite chocolate bar, it starts with a flower.
From Cacao Blossoms to Chocolate
Cacao flowers are surprisingly small and delicate. Unlike many flowering plants, cacao trees produce their blossoms directly from their trunks and larger branches.
When a blossom is successfully pollinated, it can eventually develop into a cacao pod. Inside that pod are the cacao beans that begin the long journey toward becoming chocolate.
Seeing these tiny blossoms on our trees is an exciting reminder that chocolate begins on the farm—long before it arrives in a candy bar.
Coffee Blossoms: A Beautiful Sign of What’s to Come
And then there are our coffee blossoms!
Coffee flowers are small, delicate and beautifully fragrant. When the coffee plants bloom, the orchard can take on an almost magical feeling.
After the flowers bloom and are pollinated, they eventually develop into coffee cherries. Those cherries contain the seeds that are harvested, processed, roasted and ultimately transformed into the coffee we love.
So while cacao blossoms and coffee blossoms look very different, they share something fascinating: both are the beginning of the chocolate and coffee experience.

Located at approximately 1,900 feet on the slopes of Haleakalā in Kula, Maui, our farm is home to cacao, coffee, fruits, vegetables and flowers.

One of our favorite things about farming is that no two visits are exactly alike.
Depending on the season, you might see cacao blossoms, developing cacao pods, coffee flowers, coffee cherries or something completely unexpected growing around the farm.
September is giving us plenty to be excited about with new cacao blossoms and coffee blossoms appearing throughout the orchard.
It’s a beautiful reminder that there is a whole story behind every cup of coffee and every piece of chocolate.
