Your adventure begins at Kupa’a Organic Farm nestled on the slopes of Haleakala, this working organic farm offers a sensory journey through Maui’s unique microclimate, where volcanic soil and cool breezes create ideal conditions for cacao and coffee. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s in store:

  • Guided Farm Exploration: Led by a knowledgeable guide. You’ll stroll through cacao groves and coffee orchards. Learn about the 20/20 belt – the global cacao-growing region 20 degrees north or south of the Equator – and why Maui’s cacao is so rare.
  • Blossom To Bar: Our cacao tasting takes you on a journey from fresh fruit to chocolate. We begin with the sweet tropical pulp of the cacao pod, then move to the dried beans with their bold, earthy flavor. Finally, we taste roasted cacao nibs, where the true essence of chocolate begins to shine.
  • Hands-On Activities: Get your hands dirty (in the best way!) by harvesting cacao pods or coffee cherries, depending on the season. Then, participate in a chocolate-making demonstration, creating your own hot chocolate from freshly processed beans.
  • Global Chocolate Tasting: Sit family-style for a curated tasting of 6-7 chocolates, including Hawaiian varieties with distinct flavor profiles. Compare chocolates from different latitudes and discover why Hawaiian chocolate is a rare delicacy.
  • Coffee Tasting: Sample Kupa’a’s organic coffee (when available) or other local Maui coffees. Learn how Maui’s trade winds and altitude shape the beans’ velvety low acid with nuances of tropical fruit.
  • Scenic Beauty: Pause to take in Kula’s bi-coastal views, a highlight that sets this tour apart. One guest called it “one of the most beautiful places on Maui” with “breathtaking” vistas.

Pro Tip: Wear comfortable shoes and bring a hat and sunscreen for the outdoor farm walk. Don’t forget your phone for photos – the farm’s lush gardens and panoramic views are picture-perfect! Bring your hydro flask with water (NO PLASTIC bottles, please) We provide water refills and water for the tasting at the demonstration area.
