We learned so much about the flowers, vegetation, trees, etc. We got to see cacao in various stages and even got to MAKE our very own Mexican Hot Chocolate! Ann also explained in detail the process of growing and roasting coffee on the farm. We did a chocolate tasting and enjoyed fresh farm coffee. This was a very informative and interesting tour. Ann is extremely knowledgeable and really friendly! I cannot recommend this tour highly enough.Shonte J2023-11-29Lots of great information At first we were a little skeptical being it was at someones residence that is a working farm and we didn't get to see the orchard, but the information and the education on the types of chocolate and coffee beans were great. Our two daughters (15 and 20) were able to help in the process of making our own hot chocolate from the cacao bean and we all had fun tasting the different chocolates and drinking the hot chocolate and coffee.Domino M2023-11-22Great experience Awesome tour! Katelyn was an awesome guide. So informative and ready to tell us about anything we wondered. Thanks again!WalnutCreekGal2023-08-20Fun with Coffee and Cacao! Yesterday we experienced a intimate, informative and fun tour and tasting at Kapa'a Farms. We were able to get sense of the commitment and creativity required to farm up country. We explored the coffee and cacao plants as well as other crops and supporting plants on the organic farm. We made our own delicious drinking chocolate and learned hands- on the whole amazing process from pod to product. The beautifully curated chocolate tasting was delectable and a great way to appreciate the range of flavors that can naturally come from cacao!! It was a wonderful and real encounter! But if you want a personal and authentic experience of a local farm and a hands on experience with the process of making coffee and chocolate from tree to product, I wish I could recommend it more! I made a reservation for my girlfriend’s birthday and we began our tour with Anne talking about the history of coffee and cacao farming in Hawaii and the actual agricultural background of what the plants need to survive on Maui. From small example trees with blossoms and seed pods, to the symbiotic trees necessary to provide the appropriate environment for optimal growth, and to preparing our own hot chocolate from recently dried and prepared beans, the experience was more than we had anticipated. We had the lucky opportunity to watch Gerry (one of the farmer/owners) press some freshly chopped sugar cane into juice, even got a sample too! The chocolate that we tasted really expressed how different flavors and textures can be infused into the chocolate and how different regions of the world taste compared to locally made Maui chocolate. We went over an hour past our time from chatting, asking questions and thoroughly enjoining our time on the tour. This tour is a must for anyone actually interested in how coffee and chocolate are made in Hawaii!Melanie S2023-04-03Fun experience! This tour was a lot of fun! Ours actually went a little long because we kept asking questions about the plants, but Ann was very patient through it all. The farm is smallish so it's not what I'd call a cocoa or coffee "operation", which was perfect for us. We knew in advance that there would be a hill to talk up, and we were also told in advance there wouldn't be a restroom at the top of the hill, so we were well prepared for that. Our 7 year old absolutely loved learning all the steps cocoa goes through and loved going through the process of creating the chocolate drink. We felt the tasting portions were exactly as expected - small bites of 5-6 different chocolates.
